Covid-19 Corona Virus Update

Due to the Covid-19 corona virus, classes are suspended at the school. The school will close it's current location, with the hope to take classes to online webinar format, and reassess when things have returned to some degree of normalcy.

Thanks for your understanding through this time, and I'll keep you updated via Facebook. Stay safe out there!

Is this class technical?
What gear do I need?
How long is this class?

I've been taking wedding pictures since 2005. I think I've seen it all... wow, I hope I've seen it all! Weddings are high paced, fun, happy celebrations, but the photography can be stressful, dealing with lots of different situations, not all of them photography based.

Weddings are a serious responsibilty, so lets do the best job we can!

During the workshop you'll learn:

  • What to expect on the day.
  • How to plan and prepare
  • The importance of contracts.
  • The "must get" shots.
  • The gear you need.
  • How to arrange formal group pictures.
  • Capture and creat wonderful candid moments

Who is this class for?

This class is suitable for anyone wanting to take the first step into wedding photography, or if you want to improve your event photography.

If you are just doing this one time to help out a friend, or taking your first steps into a lucrative career, this class will help you make money!

This advanced "Level 3" class is designed for people that have a good understanding of their camera. It is recommended to take Better Composition and the 3 part class Understand Your Camera. You should absolutley be image editing with Lightroom Classic CC as it will save days of editing time! What used to take me 3-5 days now takes 3-5 hours, and I do more to each image than I ever used to!

Where is this class held?

This class begins at the Colorado Photography School's Downtown location. We then move to a close by local wedding venue (location varies based on availability). There we''ll look at how to asses a location and how to position yourself to shoot the ceremony, the most crucial, and streesful, part of the day.

Is this class technical?

This is an advanced "Level 3" class, but I wouldn't call it technical in the same way as the Off Camera Flash Lighting Workshop, but we won't be covering basic camera use at all. If you're considering photographing a wedding, please, please, for the sake of the bride and groom (and their families), have a good understanding of your camera! If you're unsure, please consider taking the 3 part class Understand Your Camera before the big day!

What gear do I need?

  • Required

    • Camera with full manual control eg DSLR or Mirorless
    • Wide angle zoom (eg. 18-55mm, 24-70mm etc.)
    • Battery
    • Memory card with space
  • Optional (I have loaner flash gear)

    • TTL detachable camera flash
    • Wireless triggers
    • Flash stand
    • Umbrella/softbox
    • Telephoto lens eg 100-200mm
    • Fast portrait lens, eg. 50mm f/1.4 or 85mm f/1.8
    • Macro lens

You are welcome to use my off camera flash equipment for the class. I'd be happy to talk through the equipment options during the lesson.

Flashes are constantly improving. The Chinese brand Yongnuo now has a several good options on Amazon and make for a great starter flash. While you can save a few dollars and get a manual flash, the TTL flashes can be used on or off camera. Giving you spare flashes when on the job. Please give me a call on (719) 502-9045 to discuss the latest off camera flash model options.

How long is this class?

3 hours long. We start looking at gear options, then look at one and two light set ups and how to blend ambient with flash light. Then we'll cover the different set ups for popular lighting styles.

When should I take this class?

You can take this class alone and not take any others. However, it builds on the knowledge of the classes Better Composition, and the 3 part class Understand Your Camera. We won't cover the fundamentals of composition, or basic use of shutter speed and aperture in this class. Working with a subject, posing and accurate measurements of ambient light are covered in People and Portrait Photography Workshop.

Please be sure you have a good understanding of shutter speed and aperture. I strongly recomend the other classes first. Better Composition is an "All Levels" class and is certainly recommended, whatever your current level.

Frequently people take this class first, and end up coming to the others after. While it's fine to do that, you'll get better value and understanding the other way round.
